PHOTOGRAPHER'S NOTE
I photograph with a film camera beause the materials and practice are part
of how I experience the world and communicate with photography.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
k. Spencer grew up in Connecticut on the coast of the Long Island Sound.
She studied photography and imaging at New York University and
earned her BFA in 2009. Earlier bodies of work include
Noralk: Spaces from Home, They Call Me Sonny, and
Exercises In Moving Pictures.
The artist's work often explores the ephemeral nature of beauty and memory
in our everyday space. Working within this aesthetic framework, k. Spencer's
photography references issues of identity, sexuality, gender politics and
social justice. Other interests include the study of dialogue and peacekeeping
within the context of international relations and current global affairs.
